Soccer Q & A

How do I register my child?

Registration methods are outlined on the website under the “Registration” tab.  There are 3 methods available….mail in, walk in, and online.

How old does my child need to be to play?

Children must be between 4 and 13 on July 31st of the current year.

When/where is practice held?

Practice time and location are at the sole discretion of the coach.  Typically each child is contacted by their assigned coach in August and a practice schedule is outlined by the coach for the season.  Players who do not receive a call by August 15-20th should call the hotline at 567-3440.

When are games?

The season begins the Saturday after Labor day and runs 10 weeks.  Games are held each Saturday between 8 AM and 4 PM.  Each child in our recreational program plays 1 game per week.  Game times are typically rotated therefore start times will vary from week to week.

Can I coach my child’s team?

Oakdale Youth Soccer League is always looking for interested parent volunteers to Coach, Assistant Coach, or assist with administrative functions.  Lack of coaches may result in our inability to field all players so please consider becoming a volunteer this year.  Please let us know you are willing to volunteer by checking the appropriate box on your child’s registration form or clicking the volunteer box during online registration.  For additional information please email Registrar@OakdaleSoccer.org.

Can I bring my dog/pet to the field?

No. Oakdale Youth Soccer League has a strictly enforced no pet policy at all fields during practice or games.  Parents or guests of players who do not abide by this policy may force their team side to forfeit a game.

Is the uniform provided?

Yes. Uniforms are provided in the fee and are typically distributed a week or two before the season opens.  Uniform sizing information is collected on the registration form.  Uniforms consist of a jersey, shorts, & socks.  Shin guards and cleats are not provided but are necessary for play.

When is picture day?

Picture day is typically in late September with one make up date, typically in October.  There will be an announcement to the coaches and picture forms will be handed out.

How long is registration accepted?

Registration is accepted from April 1st to May 31st at a fee of $80 per player.  Late registration is available from June 1st to June 15th at a fee of $100 per player.

I missed registration, can my child still sign up?

Typically we will have a few kids drop after registration because the family moves or the child decides not to play.  If you missed registration, please call the hotline at 567-3440 and leave a message including your child’s name, age, and gender.  We will add that child to our waiting list.  If a spot becomes available we will contact you.

I signed my child up but he/she cannot play.  How can I get a refund?

Refunds are only processed before June 15th.  Please visit www.OakdaleSoccer.org and click on the forms tab.  Complete and return the 2009 Refund Request Form no later than June 15th. (Must be received no later than June 20th)  Please allow 2-4 weeks to process your refund.  If you have not received a refund after 4 weeks, please contact our hotline at 567-3440. It is your responsibility to insure the refund form is received.  If you would like to confirm receipt, please leave a message on the hotline. LATE REFUND REQUESTS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

I completed an Adult Disclosure Form to coach my child’s team and answered “yes” to one of the disclosure questions. Does this mean I cannot coach?

Not necessarily however the decision is made by our governing organization, California Youth Soccer Association.  Complete the form using the online link or download and print the copy from the forms tab on the website as soon as possible.  These forms are forwarded on to CYSA for approval.  A response from CYSA will be forwarded to you directly if you are not approved.

What do I need to bring to the soccer field for practice or games?

Please bring your own chairs as there is no seating around the fields.  Other items needed include: MOSQUITO SPRAY, SUNSCREEN, & WATER.

My child played in U10, U12, or U14 and is interested in playing in the All Star League (also called Mini Season or Bill Meyer).  What do I need to do?

In the final weeks of the recreational season a try out will be held for this program.  Please watch the website and speak with your coach about your interest in this program.  Try out dates will be posted.  Please be mindful that the fee to play in this league is between $150-$250.  This is a traveling program that begins in January and ends in March.

My child cannot make it to practice, will they still get to play in the game?

Practice is not mandatory in our recreational program.  Each child is guaranteed 50% play time in each game regardless of their ability to attend practice.

I need to contact the League, how do I do that?

The website provides a great deal of information for email, phone, and mailing addresses.  Typically email or phone will have the fastest response times.

I have left a message on the hotline or emailed a board member, typically how long does it take to get a response?

Typically responses are within a few days however Oakdale Youth Soccer League is a completely volunteer run organization.  If you have not received a response to your inquiry, feel free to leave a message on the hotline at 567-3440 requesting a call back.

I have a problem on the field during the middle of a game day (Saturday), what do I do?

A Board Member or Staff person is on the field at all times on Saturday.  Typically they will be wearing a red shirt and will be moving around the field on the golf cart.  Often, there is more than 1 Board Member on the field at a time so help is available.

We are unable to pay for our child to play soccer, is there any assistance available for our family?

In these difficult economic times our league has very limited funds available to assist families.  There are no full scholarships given therefore qualified families must be able to pay a portion of the fee.  Families requesting assistance will be required to complete a questionnaire and volunteer for the league in some capacity.  For an application, please email Registrar@OakdaleSoccer.org or leave a message on the hotline requesting a form.
